VOLUNTEERS

Discover Chosen For The Arts Through Volunteering

Our Volunteers

Volunteers are an important part of our model in providing high-quality, affordable arts education.

CFTA's volunteers and instructors from our partner organizations teach classes each week that will range from the visual arts, dance, creative writing, drama, music, digital arts, and music lessons. These local visual and performing artists who dedicate their time and talents enable CFTA to achieve its mission.

CFTA with the help of volunteers, does more than just teach. We all can become mentors and role models for their students, often forging meaningful and lasting relationships. We are profoundly grateful to our volunteer faculty for strengthening the lives of our children and strengthening our community.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Fine Arts Mentor to inspire and nurture the creative talents of children. As a Fine Arts Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a love for art, music, and various forms of expression in young minds. Your guidance and encouragement will help shape the artistic journeys of the next generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Artistic Guidance: Provide mentorship in various art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, music, dance, and more, depending on your expertise. Help children discover and develop their artistic interests and skills.
  2. Individualized Support: Tailor your mentoring to each child's unique abilities and interests. Recognize their strengths and areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback to encourage growth.
  3. Creative Projects: Plan and oversee creative projects and activities that challenge children's creativity and artistic abilities. Encourage them to think outside the box and express themselves through their chosen art form.
  4. Technique and Skill Building: Teach fundamental techniques and skills related to the chosen art form. Help children develop a strong foundation that they can build upon as they progress.
  5. Inspiration and Exposure: Introduce children to various artistic styles, famous artists, and cultural influences. Inspire them by exposing them to a wide range of artistic experiences.
  6. Encouragement and Confidence-Building: Foster a positive and supportive environment where children feel comfortable taking risks and pushing their artistic boundaries. Boost their confidence in their abilities.
  7. Cultural and Historical Context: Educate children about the historical and cultural significance of various art forms. Help them understand the broader context of the art they create.
  8. Goal Setting: Assist children in setting and achieving artistic goals, whether it's completing a project, participating in an exhibition, or mastering a specific technique.
  9. Communication: Maintain open communication with parents or guardians to update them on their child's progress, areas of improvement, and achievements.

Qualifications:

  • A strong background and expertise in one or more fine arts disciplines (e.g., painting, drawing, music, dance, sculpture, etc.).
  • Experience working with children and a deep understanding of their developmental needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and the ability to provide constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Creativity and the ability to adapt lessons to suit each child's unique needs.
  • A passion for the arts and a desire to instill that passion in the next generation.

Application Process:

Please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing your experience and approach to mentoring, and any relevant portfolio or work samples to info@chosenfta.org.
